Scaling
Scaling is the professional removal of plaque and calculus (tartar) from the surfaces of the teeth, both above and below the gum line, using hand instruments or ultrasonic scalers.
Combined with root planing, scaling is the cornerstone of non-surgical periodontal therapy. Routine scaling every 6–12 months helps prevent gingivitis and periodontitis.
