Periodontal Ligament
The periodontal ligament (PDL) is a network of collagen fibres that attaches the cementum of a tooth root to the surrounding alveolar bone, allowing tiny movements during chewing and acting as a shock absorber.
The PDL also contains nerve endings and blood vessels and plays a key role in tooth eruption and orthodontic movement.
