Mandible

The mandible is the lower jawbone, the only movable bone of the skull, which holds the lower teeth and forms the temporomandibular joint with the skull.

The mandible plays a key role in chewing, speech, and facial appearance. Its movements are coordinated by the temporomandibular joint — dysfunction here is known as TMJ disorder.
