Lidocaine

Lidocaine is the most widely used local anaesthetic in dentistry, providing rapid and reliable numbing of soft tissue and teeth, usually combined with epinephrine to prolong its action.

A standard dental cartridge contains 2% lidocaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine. Buffering the cartridge with sodium bicarbonate using systems such as the Onset EZ Pen reduces injection discomfort.
